Central Sunset Neighborhood
Initially developed in the 1920s by speculative real estate investor and builder Henry Doelger, the Central Sunset neighborhood represents the heart of San Francisco’s Sunset District, the largest district within the city of San Francisco. Early residents to this relatively quiet neighborhood with a suburban feel consisted primarily of Irish-Americans however the population and ethnic diversity of the Sunset has evolved considerably over the years, with strong representation from Asian-Americans, Russian immigrants, and other families.
Located in San Francisco’s District 2, the Central Sunset neighborhood is bordered by Golden Gate Park to the North, Inner Sunset and Inner Parkside to the East, Parkside to the South, and the Outer Sunset to the West. Central Sunset residents enjoy convenient access to GG Park, Ocean Beach, and friendly family-run restaurants and shops sprinkled throughout the neighborhood. It’s close proximity to 19th Avenue / Highway 1 make the Central Sunset neighborhood a palatable neighborhood for anyone that prefers city life but commutes to work in the Peninsula or South Bay (via Highway 280), or north to Marin County (via Highway 101). Additionally, excellent public transportation is readily available for those who work and play in the city.
