Representing the heart of San Francisco expansive Richmond District, Central Richmond is bordered by California Street to the North, Park Presidio to the East, Fulton Avenue to the South, and 32nd Avenue to the West. Bordering neighborhoods include Sea Cliff, Lake, Inner Richmond, as well as Golden Gate Park.
A bustling multi-cultural neighborhood, the Richmond District was initially called “the Great Sand Waste” by early immigrants to San Francisco due to the fact that the area originally consisted of rolling sand dunes which served as a barrier between the city and the sea. In the late 19th Century, commercial and residential development picked up considerably, helping to redefine the entire Richmond District as both an accessible and affordable neighborhood with great cultural diversity.
