The Clocktower Lofts at 461 2nd Street

The Clocktower, in South Beach (San Francisco) is an award winning loft conversion designed by the prolific team of David Baker + Partners, who also designed the loft conversions at 355 Bryant and 601 4th Street in San Francisco, as well West End Commons and Pacific Cannery Lofts in Oakland, Iron Horse Lofts in Walnut Creek, and the Emeryville Warehouse Lofts.  Originally a three building complex built in 1907, the brick and timber structures at 461 2nd Street were renovated into 127 live/work units in the early 1990s.

The lofts in the Clocktower Building are organized around three landscaped courtyards that serve as common space and provide access to the interior units.  Each loft is a unique unit, with no two being exactly alike; but features common to most units include exposed brick, arched windows, hardwood floors, and concrete or timber support columns.  Most units have a laundry closet and interior garage parking as well.  Residents at 461 2nd Street share a common roof deck that offers views of the surrounding city.
